In the outskirts of Rome

On friday morning, we left to see the catacombs.

Unfortunately, photography was not allowed in the catacombs, only in the church above it. Anyhow, I think this was another of the catacombs where I visited during my first trip to Rome seven years ago. There were many interesting details in the catacombs, including some hand-written references to Paul (the one in Bible) and Peter.

Sounds fromt the church above the catacombs - about 400 kB, 30 seconds.

After that, we visited a site outside the walls of Rome. The old road, Via Appia, was very lumpy, made of stone tiles and such. Via Appia is an ancient Roman road, and 579 kilometers long in all.

Sound from the above faucet - about 130 kB, 10 seconds.

Then we went to see some mountain lakes. On our way there, there were some ruins by the road.

Apparently the lakes were old volcano craters. On the rim of the lake Albano (?), there a was city. We went to have a lunch there.

Then we went to see another city by another lake, Nemi (I think).

Some sounds from the lake when taking the picture below - about 400 kB, 30 seconds.

There are also other pages with nice pictures of the Roman sites, for example by Kalervo Koskimies.
