system still down, Jules regenerated the end station cryo-pump and started
the compressor I presume on Wed., I am having a problem pumping down the beam
line cryo-pump, proberly the vent valve need cleaning.

>>> 'iona' problem from parrish -- Fri Jul 21 13:11:37 1989 <<<

problem: relay in the compressor going on and off

cause:     lack of cooling water

solution: installed a flow limit into the vwater line that suppy the diff-
           usion-pump, now the water line return from the compressor is cool
           system is regenerated and operational.

>>> 'iona' problem from hoagland -- Mon Jul 31 16:30:07 1989 <<<

problem: Cryo compressor AC line cord connector burning out-
          red lead has bad contact at connector causing meltdown
          of plastic housing and loss of wire insulation.

cause: Faulty installation of connector- 250V 30A 3 phase twist
        lock AC type.

solution: Cut cable back 1 ft. and install new connector. The
           compressor is up and working fine.

The high voltage meter which indicates acceleration potential
is not reading over 25 KV despite the presence of higher voltages.
Until the link between the high voltage supply and readout has
been restored iona is down.

>>> 'iona' problem from hoagland -- Fri Aug  4 11:40:03 1989 <<<

problem: High Voltage readout on control panel doesn't work-
          only goes to 25KV.

cause: Bad connection between control panel and power supply.

solution: Reseat connectors on both ends of readout/setpoint
           cable.

Source is arcing out uncontrollably, using Boron, at 25 KeV. I suspected an
old source at first, but I have changed the source twice, and the problem
persists.

>>> 'iona' problem from bob -- Tue Aug  8 16:06:29 1989 <<<

The source on iona has been cleaned and the source bushing and
acell-decell insulators have been replaced. The source is pumping
down overnight and will be tested in the morning. In addition the
end station cryo is being regenerated.

>>> 'iona' problem from bob -- Thu Aug 10 14:46:23 1989 <<<

Problem: Source arcing
Cause:   DP cold
Solution: Fixed acell-decell power supply shorted to due arcing.
          Rebuilt the source as described in previous report.
          There remains a problem with the end station ion gauge
          which Gyula is replacing. Also the end station cryo is now
          cooling down.

>>> 'iona' problem from hoagland -- Thu Aug 10 17:13:18 1989 <<<

problem: End station ion gauge not working.

cause: Circuit breaker tripped on rear of controller.

solution: Reset circuit breaker. The vacuum controller is up
           and working.

The freon pump was left on yesterday for 3 hrs following
routine maintenance on the implanter. Despite the pending disposal
of this equipment it would seem prudent to follow established
procedures for shutdown and lessen any chance of further breakdown
in the few days of operation that remain.

Problem: Gas regulator on Boron line is leaking.

>>> 'iona' problem from jules -- Tue Aug 15 16:07:13 1989 <<<

Problem: Regulator on Boron line leaking also the Boron gas bottle was leaking.

Cause: Corrosion of the regulator; corrosion of the shutoff valve.

Solution: Bob replaced the entire regulator mechanism with a new one,
           with which we can now properly regulate the flow.

The recirc h2o line feeding the freon heat exchanger came out of a jaco
fitting. This caused a flood in the tylan and VLSI areas. The tech staff
has removed the flood waters. The broken line has been valved off.
Do not run iona until problem is fixed.

>>> 'iona' problem from evan -- Thu Aug 17 15:12:07 1989 <<<

problemz; broken recirc connection
solution: fitting was re connected and adjacent jacos checked for tightness.
 iona is up

>>> 'iona' problem from hoagland -- Fri Aug 25 16:21:28 1989 <<<

problem: Beamline vacuum controller DIFF HEATER lamp cycling on
          and off; diffusion pump contactor also cycling. Operator
          observed all gate valves in the system close and Granville
          Phillips vacuum controller shutoff.

cause: Umknown. Possibly loose connection on rear of beamline
        vacuum controller caused failure- there is no beamline
        diffusion pump. Source diffusion pump was working fine.

solution:  Reseat beamline vacuum controller.

problem:
iona cryopump is making a funny noise.

engineering analysis:
seem the piston thing you can see through the little round
window makes an irregular motion when the strange sound
happens.

editorial:
i do not know if iona still is used but i thought i would
mention it since i keep hearing the strange sound. maybe
not serious either.

all the toxic gases have been purged and removed from the gas cabinet in
the ion implanter. Selected gases will be given to LBL for use on their
implanter. The rest will be disposed of. Demolition of iona can now
proceed.

>>> 'iona' problem from bob -- Mon Nov 20 09:04:02 1989 <<<

EH&S has been sent notification that the ion implanter has been shut
down and they can elimiante out RUA as montoring radiation is no
longer relevant.

All toxic gases have been fully purged from iona and its associated
gas plumping. The bottles have been capped and placed in a gas cabinet.
The empties will be disassembled and N2 purged upon my
return. Full bottles will be disposed of via EH&S.
