>>> 'hitsem' problem from rnorman -- Wed Nov  1 11:37:38 1989 <<<

There are 2 problems with the hitsem at this time; the "flash" button
does not engauge and the CRT has a split image. The vacuum is very good.
The emission current or "HV" will not turn on until the "flash" has been
engauge and the red LED stops blinking.

The IPs turned off, will restart tomorrow.

>>> 'hitsem' problem from rnorman -- Fri Nov 10 14:36:41 1989 <<<

Problem: IPs turned off

Solution: They were started up slowly. The hitsem is pumping
          with the IPs on the specimen chamber. Monday I
          may have to bake the upper IP. We still have a problem
          with the monitor, but the monitor can't be fixed until
          the "flash" button is repaired; not engauging flash of tip.

The IPs are baking out at this time.

The IPs have been baked out and the hitsem is under hi-vac. We still
have a problem with the flash button and the monitor has a split image.

Steve, that is the problem with the tip, it will not flash. It was acting
intermittently a couple times then it stoped working, as you know. No tip
was resently installed, the old tip was working. The tip must be flashed
before an image can be produced, there is an inerlock. Now that you
know the switch works you can check the electronics. The flash must be
repaired before you work on the video problem, because the tip is
non-functional durring the flash period. The question at this time
is: Since the switch is working, why is the flash circuit not engauging
flash current to the tip? Someone with your talent can find the
answer to this question.

Steve looked at the hitsem and found the "flash" button good. The tip will
not operate until we get the "flash" circuit working, because when the "flash"
red LED is flickering the tip will not operate, due to an interlock, until the
tip is flashed. At this time the flash circuit prevents the
troubleshooting of the monitor split image problem. DO NOT OPERATE!

I'm not sure what Steve did, since he was working on the hitsem
for a while before he left. I know the "flash" button does not ingage
the fash circuit and the video monitor has a split image on the
screen; this video problem occurred after the monitor was repaired the
first time. Steve was repairing a test circuit for the "flash"
circuit, but he made no comment to me or in the computer log if he
fixed it. The hitsem is still down. ***DO NOT OPERATE***

>>> 'hitsem' problem from bob -- Tue Jan 23 09:45:39 1990 <<<

The hitsem is down due to image problems and a tip that won't flash.
Gary Swanson on Hitachi (1-408-432-0520) has been called and he
estimates it will take up to 2 days of labor to make these repairs.
It is possible they will negotiate some reduced charges if the insturment
is delivered to them. In addition they will offer some training on it.
Repairs are pending subject to a review of the value of the hitsem in
the microlab.

>>> 'hitsem' problem from bob -- Mon Feb 12 14:12:58 1990 <<<

The hitsem will be removed from the Microlab as a piece of equipment.
It is being retired due to its age and limited capabilities. Bill Kumpf
of Excess and Salvadge will be consulted for sale of this insturment.
roberto@janus will be asked to do the paperwork.

As part of nanospec/ analytic area move, I have removed the taurus box and
cables. this frees up dport #33. I am removing the hitsem's equipcap entry.
bye-bye hitsem
