Problem: Motorized nose piece won't turn.
Cause:   Blown fuse
Solution: The fuse was replaced with an identical rated fuse which blew
again (50ma). A 100 ma fuse has been substituted and appears to be working.

>>> 'reichert' problem from galewski -- Mon Jan  9 21:44:51 1989 <<<

Have to watch setting the clutch too hard. Found that the microscope
was not parcentering when going to smaller magnification. Discovered
that the clutch was set so tight that the nosepiece would not get to
the stop when rotating clockwise. Loosened the clutch a little and
the rotation in both directions was fine. Mentioning this so that all
problems with the rotation are not fixed by tightening the clutch.

				Thank you,
				  Carl

The condenser for the transillumination light source has arrived
and will be installed by evan. This completes the original
order. A letter has been sent to Andre Lebarsky requesting
the identification of the filter types installed, a demo of
a celan room camera, the screws to link the cubes together
and a box to house components.

Reichert has been called regarding lingering problems
with our Polyvar microscope. A week has passed since our
last phone call without a response. Problems, such as the
100X and the 50X parfocality will be pursued with the
vendor prior to making repairs. I am now in touch with
Carol Horn @ Cambridge re: their terrible service.

>>> 'reichert' problem from bob -- Mon Aug 14 07:46:57 1989 <<<

Lou Fishbine of Cambridge Inst. called to get our address so he can
set up an appointment with field service. They will be looking into
the problem with parfocality of the 50X obj., our filter holder not
being removable and our camera/dirt problem. Users will be notified
of the appointment date in advance.

>>> 'reichert' problem from bob -- Tue Aug 15 11:56:15 1989 <<<

Problem: Filter holder not removable and 50X-100X not parfocal.

Cause: Lamp assembly supplied is for Polyvar not Polylight.
         100X objective not seated correctly.

Solution:The filter holder is removable by unscrewing the lamp
         assembly. It is an excellent light source therefore it
         will not be exchanged and there is little problem per-
         forming the filter removal. The filter holder takes 30mm
	 filters and installing our own will be little
	 problem.

	 The 100x objective was properly installed and is
	 now parfocal with the 50X within 3-4 microns.

	 The reichert is up ready for use.

>>> 'reichert' problem from bob -- Wed Sep 13 15:13:09 1989 <<<

A modification has been made to the Reichert at the request of
Carl Galewski. The automated rotation is now set up so it is
by-directional except when the objective is in the lowest
magnification, 2X. In the 2X position, only forward motion is
allowed. This ingenious modification is documented in the
master copy of the Reichert manual.

The illumination on the reichert works fine. There are also spare available
to users in the reichert drawer. Reviewing cgoss' message reveals the basic
reichert problem to be Charles' lack of syntax. The reichert is up.

>>> 'reichert' problem from galewski -- Thu Oct 26 12:38:34 1989 <<<

Problem: 100x objective does not give centered view when stepping
	  from 50x. Also image drifts at 100x. Gives different\
	  view when stepped from 150x

Analysis: Black tape on objective holder has a seam where drive wheel
	   hits objective holder when viewing through 100x. Glue ending
	   up on o-ring from both black and white tape. Improved some
	   on drift problem after increasing tension of drive wheel but
	   difficult to use since image not centered or consistent.

Editorial: Maybe we can think of something more durable and smoother
	    for the 150x lock-out detector?

>>> 'reichert' problem from galewski -- Thu Oct 26 13:52:06 1989 <<<

At Evan's request I checked my analysis.

Yes releasing the drive wheel and using manual rotation all objectives
centralized and no drifting.

problem: subtle focus shift
cause: drive wheel hitting seam in black tape of motion detector
solution: increased intensity of IR LED on the optical pickup

         - put a small piece of reflective tape where needed for sensor
             that does not sit under drive wheel at any lens stop.

Objective changer occasionally slips and does not change objective

Protection from changing between 2x and 150x objective fails most of the
