>>> 'lpe3' problem from bob -- Wed Mar  7 15:24:30 1990 <<<

lpe3 has been shipped and is due here between March 8th-12th.
The manufacturer is General Air, Mr. David Sagi @ 1-818-718-8955
The shipper needs to be contacted so actual arrangements can be
made for there van delivery. A call to David Sagi got me an
answering machine that cut my message off after about 5 seconds.

As I will not be in tomorow, Phillip will attempt to get
this info and contact the van lines.

The delivery truck for lpe3 would not fit thru the alleyway.
It will be delivered (again) tomorrow, 3/9/90. I asked the
truck driver to have the truck dispatcher to call me/us when it
is leaving their place.

David Sagi of General Air Corp will be sending someone up to repair
lpe3 tomorow morning around 9:00 am. It is hoped that the repairs will
be completed and the installation of lpe3 can be completed by next week.

lpe3 has been repaired and is ready for installation. This will
proceed after the electrical panel is re-routed.

The work done by General Air looks satisfactory; however,
the tube and some cleaning of the internal parts of the
machine will be left up to us.

Installation should be completed by the end of next week.

Subject: LPE3 schedule
Status: R

Hi, Katalin,Bob, and Phil:

I am happy I graduated. Before I leave, Prof. Wang still want
me to do one more thing: that is to bring the LPE3 into operation
condition. Therefore, I would like to know micorlab's schedule in
assembling the LPE3. I found that the automatic puller and the
glove box are still not ready yet. Also, there is no pump for the\
new system!!! Could we add a small pump for it? How long will this
process take? I will spend one week at home to read the manu first
(while at the same time taking care of my little baby).

My plane is as follow: May 5 to May 13 stay at home and read the
manu. May 14 to May 18 start testing run. Could the LPE3 be ready
for my test run by May 14? Professor Wang is very worried about it.
He would like this system to be up as soon as possible. Thanks a lot
in helping me on this. Please let me know microlab's plane on this.
Thanks.

Wei

P.s.
The glove box and the gloves need to be cleaned before it can be
sealed. The glove box needs to be wiped by ACE and methanol and the
gloves need to be cleaned by microsoap first and then by methanol.
If Phil do not have time to do it, please ask Joseph to do it. Thanks.

Hsin,

lpe3 is hooked up to both the power and the gases. The quartz tube was
cleaned and installed. The only remaining items to be done are
the installation of the pushrod and tc-well and plugging in the
stepper motor cable. These remaining items are minor and were
left undone purposefully. I want to assemble these in the presence
of a lpe3 user as their assembly-disassembly will be required in
maintaining this unit.

The gloves on the glove box were removed by Dr. Du and myself as they
are impossible to work with and users will shortly discover this. They
contribute substantial contamination in their use. General Air offered
the option of a HEPA filter which, in my opinion would have been a
better choice. At this point the glove box should be modified and
someone in your group needs to be consulted and involved. Dr. Du
was informed of this modification.

There was no pumping system ordered with this unit. I am not aware that
General Air provides this option nor that your group wnated one. I
presume you are talking about putting the tube under vacuum to bake
the boat, etc. The pumping arrangement for this can be
provided; however, it will require some planning as simply adding
a mechanical pump would npt be advisable. Some manifolding and
trapping is required.

I have placed several calls to Prof. Wang and cannot get hold of him.
Your group needs to provide someone for the completion of this
install. In view of your travel plans I think someone else would
be a good idea.

I will again try and reach Prof. Wang. We stand ready and willing to assist
in every way possible.

Bob
