problem: hour meter disfunctional
cause: disconnected on installation?
solution: removed the old hour meter and tested on the bench. the meter
worked fine. checked voltages on the connecting wires and found no active

the slit motor drive. the hour meter now runs when the isolation power switch
is activated.

Initial investigation of the vacuum controller revealed no obvious
connector problems, sensor problems, or program failure. A day
later the controller works fine under actual process conditions and
exhibits no problems whatsoever. The beamline was opened several
times to facilitate replacement of an ion tube yesterday, leaving a
slight possibility that the system somehow adversely affected the
controller. For now the controller will be returned to service and
a close attention paid to any signs of continuing difficulties... iona
is up and available for service.

repair of the CT-8 to solve this problem.

>>> 'iona' problem from bob -- Mon Feb 13 07:40:42 1989 <<<

User reports iona cycling.

The cause of this is a flaky ion gauge controller. It is a
controller with onboard microprocessor and is used to
sequence the valves. It has a habit of turning off the ion
gauge periodically which then automatically closes the HV
valve on the end station. Eventually the pressure drifts
upwards and the machine begins to cyc;e at its set point.
The contoller will have to be sent back to Granvile-Phillips
for repair however this will not be done until there is a
breather in the implant schedule. iona is useable and
pumping under HV.

insulation nothing was found wrong with it's operation, not even

The vacuum controller continues to fail, though much less often
than the past month or so. Repositioning the control cards had
only a limited effect on eqwuipment operation. Jim Macken of
Granville Phillips suggested we might have a bad ground on iona
and to provide an additional ground for the chassis directly to
the AC power bus overhead. I will attempt something along these
lines; in the meantime he finally agreed to send us a set of
schematics for the unit. Another problem remains a possible problem
with the AC plug on the cryopump. It is very hot to the touch and
exhibits substantial rubber damage from overheating at the plug-
this needs to be reterminated ASAP. For some reason the compressor
periodically shuts down for several seconds(up to 30 or so) and
restarts automatically.

Iona's cryopump compressor is failing consistently now. It
