Found the leak detector on and without LN. Had been left that way
by the last user in the back of the LAMs. Tried to put it in weekend
standby mode to minimize any damage but would not pump down less than
100 mtorr in service pump mode. Cleaned of oil from the cold trap and
cleaned the o-ring but no better.

>>> 'hld' problem from parrish -- Mon Jan 30 13:40:12 1989 <<<

problem:    roughing-pump won`t pump below 100 mtorr

cause:      probably bad shaft seals

solution: removed orginal pump and installed a spare pump, system is function- ing prorerly.

Found leakdectector not running and not in weekend standby.
Put in start mode and topped off cold trap, leaving it in
overnight stanby mode.

Added 'hospital grade duplex receptacle' in proximity of the
new homing location of this machine.

P: Ultek machine tripping breaker B6 . This is the normal power
   circuit for the Ultek.
S: Unplugged the hld from a random a.c. plug it was powered from (B6).

   Placed the hld on the dedicated plug it was meant for.

(hld techs please note: Careful of where you plug your machine in.
 As we already know, it draws much current and should be operated
 from outlets that do not have critical equipment already plugged in.)

The emission current for filament #1 must be turned up to about
8.0. Filament #1 is getting weak and may need to be replaced
soon. Filament #2 isn't working at all.

>>> 'hld' problem from rnorman -- Mon May 15 13:00:34 1989 <<<

The hld emission current had to be turned up so high because the
knob that sets the "ion" was way too high. It should be about 4 and
was at 9 on the dial, way past the center He peak. Also, there is a
problem at this time with the 'vent' solenoid valve leaking into the
hld chamber.

>>> 'hld' problem from rnorman -- Wed May 17 07:13:46 1989 <<<

The ASCO vent valve rebuild kit was ordered and will be here 5/18.
The hld will be operational after that time.

>>> 'hld' problem from rnorman -- Thu Jun 15 11:19:30 1989 <<<

Problem: Vent valve on the hld was leaking.

Solution: Ordered valve rebuild kit, #304354, from Tempresco and
         rebuilt the valve. The valve was installed and tested.
         The hld is up.

>>> 'hld' problem from rnorman -- Thu Aug  3 08:55:09 1989 <<<

Problem: Oil leaking out of the hld onto the floor.

Cause: There was a fairly large compressed air leak at the seal
       of the air lubricator which caused the compressor to stay
       on almost continually. This produced excess H2O build up in
       the filter bowl to the point that H2O was overflowing into
       the lubricator bowl pushing the oil out onto the floor.

Solution: The air leak in the lubricator bowl was repaired and
          tested. I also installed a larger filter bowl assembly
          that will hold more H2O. The hld is up.

    NOTE: The hld is plugged into the socket next to the hepa in
          the old lab and keeps on popping the breaker on the wall.
          We need t find a location near the NRC and V401 where the
          hld can be plugged into without popping a breaker.
          (noted for phill's attention)

should be corrected ASAP.

The hld appears to be back in standby. This should have been reported as
a problem fix. This message will be cc'd to galewski and rnorman as a
reminder. hld users should use the problem reports every time the hld is
used and a fix should be reported when the hld has been returned to standby.
This will assure the LN trap gets filled regularly as the e-stat board will
serve as a reminder.

The a.c. plug , apparently, has sustained a fire? It has been this way
over 2 weeks. It's my hunch that the plug should be checked.

>>> 'hld' problem from phillip -- Tue Dec 19 09:52:53 1989 <<<

Replaced plug on a.c. line cord.
Whether this was the problem or the machine is drawing
excessive current has not been ascertained.

The hld is down for a yearly PM. The DP will be cleaned and new oil
installed, the Ion Source Assly will be cleaned and the filliment replaced.
All the pneumatic valves will be inspected and repacked if necessary. The
hld probably will not be ready for use until early next week.

>>> 'hld' problem from rnorman -- Thu Jan 11 07:12:50 1990 <<<

Problem: Down for yearly PM.

Solution: The system was totally torn down and cleaned. The DP was
       cleaned and new oil installed. The Ion Source Assly was cleaned
       and a new dual filement installed. All three pneumatic valves
       were cleaned and re-greased. And all the pneumatic lines were
       replaced. The hld was turned on and a small air leak was found
       around the "oil bowl", which was tightened down. The hld was
       tuned up and is now under vacuum ready for use. It runs
       much better!

There is still oil comming from a pump in the hld. Everyday the
oil on the floor must be wiped up. It is brown oil. Either the

problem: oil leak to the floor

cause: oil seepage at the roughing-pump

solution: added a oil pan under both fore and roughing-pumps, this

            to have oil pans under them. the hld is up.
