Four private businessmen started in 2010-11 a new company, NTV or Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (new passenger transport) as a direct competitor of the Italian state railways. NTV ordered 25 trains of the new Alstom series AGV, Alstom Automotrice à grande vitesse, which is a 360 km/h fast 11 coaches long fixed train. After long delays which were probably deliberate to keep the new competitor off Italian tracks, NTV finally got its trains rolling and uses the trade name .italo (yes, there is a full stop before the name). This is one of .italo's AGV trains. .italo has been a successful product and lately NTV ordered more trains to expand their service. The new trains will be of Alstom's new train family, Avelio.
