Subject: Fly By Night I've Seen some interest in night flying recently. Flying at night is a blast. There's an almost spiritual connection with the universe when your kite is shining with the stars and planets. WARNING: The remainder of this article contains scenes of blatant advertising. Viewer discretion is advised. I've been flying at night for years but haven't been happy with the look of glow sticks. The light sets available in the kite shops were pathetic for the price. So..... This year I formed "FLY BY NIGHT" to manufacture the brightest, most durable kite lights in the know universe. I've seen nothing comparable in any kite shops. They are bright enough to be seen at least a half mile down the beach (people have told me 1 mile and I don't doubt it). They are NOT FRAGILE (1 year warranty) - you can get them dirty or wet and you can throw them in the bottom of your kite bag without worring about damaging them. There're all one piece, no parts to loose. They attach and detach without any tape, ties, or tools. They have ten mega bright LED's that clip onto the leading edge and a battery pack that clips onto the spine. They light the entire leading edge of full size kites. The weight is 2.5 ounces without batteries (two AA). The come in red, yellow, orange or green. You should be able to find them in kites stores this spring (ask if you don't see them). For high end flyers, Majiq Kite Company (702-642-0254) is sewing an ultra light weight version into their "Challenger". The lights are an integral part of the kite - no exposed wires. But the sentence "They light the entire leading edge of full size kites." seems to be somehwat biased. What is a "full size kite"? An 8' stunt kite? A 12' single line delta? What? I will assume that the writer is talking about stunt kites, but I've flown single line kites at night lit with glow sticks, Christmas bulbs, to Vistalite (bicycle tail light with flashing LED's) units. If you're only flying stunt kites at night, you're only getting half the fun! Richard amirault@tiac.net = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
