Message-ID: Summary: light weight spars on a flexi makes all the difference Keywords: flexi spar Organization: Motorola Inc., Cellular Infrastructure Group Date: Mon, 12 Oct 1992 02:33:59 GMT I just got done flying with my son with a 4 year old flexi and some new light weight spars and some new spider line. WOW, what a difference. Usually, I need 15 mph to get the kite off the ground and have some fun with it. With the new spars, I can fly in 5-10 mph winds and have a heck of a lot of fun. No more falling out of the sky when the winds die down. Now I can stay aloft in the slightest breeze and wait for the next gust to come by. If anyone wants some details, drop me a line ;-) -- = Enjoy! WOW, what a difference. Fun, isn't it? Be careful with the Easton portion of your Ultraflex--I just broke mine last week and I've no idea how. It's not particularly fragile-- I've used the Ultraflex in winds over 15mph with no trouble. >Usually, I need 15 mph to get the kite off the ground and >have some fun with it. With the new spars, I can fly >in 5-10 mph winds and have a heck of a lot of fun. Actually, the Ultraflex should give you a wind range down to about 2 or 3. I've run 360s with my flexis, and I know there's no way I could have done that in 5-10! >No more falling out of the sky when the winds die down. >Now I can stay aloft in the slightest breeze and wait for >the next gust to come by. For me, the Ultraflex does a lot more than just change the wind range. It turns the Flexifoil into a total finesse kite--extremely sensitive and just waiting to do whatever you want. For instance, I would never have dreamed of tip stands with a flexifoil! Or the various orientations in which you can do the somersault move (as opposed to just parked at the top of the window). It's no longer a speed/power kite. In high winds (>10 mph) you can use the Ultraflex to slow the kite. This is a good trick for competition. Jeff -- |Jeffrey C. ARGH! I've just got to get my hands on an Ultraflex spar! But in the meantime, I've run 360's even on an old, heavy (blue fibreglass), 10' using 80lb 75' line.
