There are two metal rings on the opposite ends of the kite, which (of course) are attached to it; can I just attach my line to the metal rings, or do I need to buy swivels, attach those to the metal rings, and then attach my line to the swivels? I'm kinda confused, I've never used flexifoil kites before - this was a gift, so I'm unsure of who to call to get a straight answer. Thanks for any help! Do the same with the right flying line on the right side of the Flexifoil. This puts the pull from the flying lines on the spar. The rings then ensure that the kite stays stretched out along the spar. When you attempt to launch the kite, it is easiest if someone holds the kite up in the air by holding it overhead with one hand at the center of the leading edge by grasping the spar. When the kite is inflated and you are ready ask your helper to let go of the kite. Then, you should step backward about two steps and sweep your hands back and down. The Flexifoil should then form an arch with the tips of the spar pointed downward. Greetings Jason, The rings are not for attaching the flying line to but to keep the kite stretched between the two ends of the spar. Tie a loop in the ends of your lines and pass this loop through the metal rings. Use a larks head knot to connect the flying line to the end of the spars (between the rubber grommett and the end cap). Don't know what a larks head is? Ok, as I am useless at ascii art, here is a long-winded explanation: Hold the line (below the loop) in your left hand. Pass the thumb and forefinger of your right hand through the loop from underneath. Open your thumb and forefinger, rotate them towards your left hand till they point downwards then close them over the loop itself. The doubled loop round your thumb and forefinger now goes over the spar. Violla, a larks head! (If this is teaching your granny to suck eggs, humble apologies) Happy flying. ---------------------------------- | PAUL CHANDLER - York Kite Flyers | | Paul@FreeWind.demon.co.uk | ---------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = From: andrew@tug.com (Andrew Beattie) Subject: Re: Flexifoil line Organization: /usr/lib/news/organisation Date: Thu, 16 May 1996 20:21:57 -1000 Message-ID: jlevit@alliant.backbone.uoknor.edu (Jason John Levit) writes: > I'm trying to attach line to my new flexifoil kite, which didn't come > with any instructions. *grin* You won't guess :-) First, you'll need a loop in the end of your lines (I'll guess that there's already one there...), now you need to know how to tie a larks head knot. It's a very simple knot that's tied with the loop, which looks like this: ______ ______ / \ / \ | | | | ===============|=|================= In article <4ng2q6$7a6@frazier.uoknor.edu>, jlevit@alliant.backbone.uoknor.edu says... > > Hi All, > > I'm trying to attach line to my new flexifoil kite, which didn't come > with any instructions. slip your lines *through* the rings and larkshead them to the spar just beyond the rubber grommet.... = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = From: DENIS CHARETTE Subject: Re: Flexifoil line Date: Fri, 17 May 1996 02:41:51 -1000 Organization: Concordia University, Montreal, Canada Message-ID: NNTP-Posting-User: d_chare Attaching lines to a Flexifoil can sure be confusing without instructions. Here is how. First you pass the sleeved loop at the end of your line through the metal rings and then you tie it to the fiberglass rod, between the rubber washer and the rubber tip with the same type of slip knot used on any other kite. I hope this help. Have fun with your Flexi. I know I will since I am on my way to the store to buy one (my second one) today... Head in the clouds... Too bad whomever gave it to you didn't include an instruction sheet. *Don't * attach your lines to the rings. Instead, pass the line through the rings and tie it (preferably with a larkshead knot) to the spar. The knot goes between the end cap and the small, doughnut shaped stopper. Moving the stoppers will actually help tune the kite for different winds. But for most conditions, placing them near the end caps works just fine. Hope that helps. -- * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Gomberg Kite Productions, International Please note my new email address: dgomberg@orednet.org The "from" line is this posting may be incorrect = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
