He said that there were 28 entrants in the fighter kite event. He also said that there were a lot of talented flyers. I wish we could get that amount and level of interest here in the midwest. If any of those Washington fighter people would like to converse they can get me here or at Dkyte@aol.com. Hoping to here from you --------------------------------- Dr Kyte I disapprove of what you say, but I will aka Joe Schiros defend to the death your right to say it. --Voltaire --------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sat, 9 Sep 1995 09:55:36 -1000 From: johnsen@eskimo.com (Brian Johnsen) Message-Id: Organization: Tethered Airfoil R&D Pty. We're here. Do you have any specific thing you'd like to know about? I usually try to follow up on fighter kite questions. In order to get a group motivated in any particular area, someone has to get a fighter kite event incorporated into the program for regular sport kite meets. If one other person shows up to fight or even just learn, you have something happening. Perhaps one other person will show up at the next event. I'm much indebted to Steve Millspaugh (sparks@netcom.com) and Ed Alden (not on the net but he wrote an article on building figher kites in the spring '93 issue of _KiteLines_) for the interest in fighters here in Washington state. They are both involved in organizing fighter comps in the local area, and spend much personal time and phone calls organizing things up here. Get your toe into the door. Sponsor a fighter comp at the next meet in your area. I don't go for prizes. I like flying single line fighters. Make some ribbons from spare ripstop scraps. Give away some 3$ paper figher kites in a bag. Get the local kite shop to donate them. Personal involvement in organization will go miles to get something started in your area. This year at Longbeach there was a designated fighter kite field with signs and shown on the field diagram in the program guide. We were way out on the periphery, but recognized none the less as a formal part of the festival. I was in fighter kite heaven. I see listings of event standings for precision, ballet, Quad etc. from events, but never any figher kite results. What up? I know I should have for the Longbeach event, but I didn't take notes. (shame shame) I'll try to do better in future. -- Psychotic Polish Dentist Struck By Bee Billions and Billions of Times -- Brian Johnsen johnsen@eskimo.com Seattle, Washington USA = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
