March) Message-Id: Organization: Speech Technology, AI Lab, NYNEX S&T Inc, White Plains, NY Subject: Events coordinator needed I was speaking to Marty Sasaki the other day about upcoming events only to find that the list of events I had was very badly out of date. Being a novice, I don't really know where to look for this stuff. I made a suggestion that we both agreed sounded good. Here it is: I was thinking that what rec.kites needs is either a central location (like the ftp archive), or even better, an person who is willing to maintain a list of upcoming events and post them, say once a week, to rec.kites. In order for this to work, every one has to know that this person is *the* person to send all updates to. This can also be accomplished by a weekly posting (maybe a rec.kites FAQ?). If you think this is a good or bad idea, speak out. If you want to volunteer, speak out even louder! :-) greg ------ Gregory F. Main problem, now and always, is that we don't hear about or sanction all events, though the number is increasing -- 75-90 per year. I expect that we sanction most of the competitive events though. A secondary problem is that we often don't receive a sanctioning request until insurance panic sets in a few weeks before the event. I'll do a text dump of the upcoming list in the next few days and send it as e-mail to the group so you can see if its useful. I collected the info from different sources and posted a listing of the events in next couple of months to rec.kites. For some reasons rec.kiters were not emailing me updates; in three or four months I only got one (1) contribution. I will not try again, but if somebody will volunteer I am willing to send her/him my outdated database to start with.
