Just got back from a trip to Europe which included a bit of kiting! It was a great pleasure to meet fellow rec.kiters Chuck van Eekelen and Phillipe Lepez from The Netherlands and Belgium respectively. Chuck had us over for a traditional dutch meal which was greatly enjoyed. Phillipe organised a mini international (Belgium, South Africa, USA) festival which included rec.kiter John Ruggerio from the USA who was also over on business. Unfortunately my timing was bad so I was only able to exchange greetings with Peter van der Hamer by telephone. Over in the UK I had a very enjoyable day at the 1st Canterbury International Kite Festival - thanks to the organisers for hosting a nice event! Also stopped in at Vlieger Op and met Nop Velthuizen and some of his crew. NICE shop and very nice people! Fortunately I only had an hour or so to spend there as any longer and I would no doubt be bankrupt! Well - A toast to kiting - a hobby that turns a stranger into a friend 10000km from home. I have never eaten so well as I did in Belgium. With the possible exception of my Italian mother's cooking.
