From looking at the pictures, most of them The book "Fighter Kites" by Philippe Gallot has 29 designs. Published by St. Martin's Press, ISBN 0-312-03964-6 . Available from Kite Lines or Into the Wind for $12.95 US. Coloured paper or Tyvek. Bow is 3 mm (1/8 in) bamboo, trimmed to 2 mm (1/16 in) towards the tip. A 2 mm fibre will be all right if you inrease the fold over the tips of the bow. The central stick is made with a 3 mm (1/8 in) bamboo. You may wish to trim it to 2 mm towards the tail. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Evan Splett Digital Equipment of Canada Ltd. phone 819-772-7205 Fax 819-772-7226 e_splett@kaofs.enet.dec.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: 14 May 93 15:26:36 From: jason@ab20.larc.nasa.gov (Jason Austin) Message-Id: Organization: NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA Subject: Easy to make fighter kite plans I was looking through my copy of the ``Ultimate Kite Book'' and found the fighter kites to be interesting. I think it would be fun to make the sails out of thin paper, like newsprint, with the object being to disable the other peoples's kites by tearing up their sails. This seems a bit more practical than glass coated string. Does anyone have a basic fighter kite design that can be built fairly cheaply and easily? From looking at the pictures, most of them look very much like the paper diamond kites I used to make with a straight vertical spar, a bowed horizontal spar, and a string stretched around the tips of the spars to fold the paper over. Starting with a very basic design, a lot of the fun would be making small modifications to give you an advantage over the other kites. -- Jason C.
