Maybe the SSKC has a curse on it and it's destined to always flop. A mass snail-mailing of details and registration forms is enroute as we speak. If you have any questions, let me know. Anyhow, I posted notice of the event on rec.kites a short while ago, giving details and asking folks to email me for event info. registration forms have now been sent out, Roger tells me. It was never the intent to keep info re: this or any event in the dark. After all, the more people who can come, the better the event. Unfor- , per Roger Chewning, event organizer, the details on this one were not all ironed out until the day I put the notice up on rec.kites. There was a question on whether it should be a regional or a full Eastern LEague event. The decision was made to make it a full LEague event since, among other things, there are not that many events in the South and the number of competitors warrants it. So, yes, notice is short. But no. It ain't no secret event. I bet they'll let you fly! P. S. I understand Sherrie Arnold will be posting the dates of the entire Eastern LEague calendar inthe next couple of days. Make your vacation plans! = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 30 Jan 1995 14:46:10 -1000 From: pbc@ufl.edu (Philip Chase) Message-Id: Organization: CIRCA, University of Florida Subject: Re: Eastern League Event In article <3geco4$3im@newsbf02.news.aol.com> djskites@aol.com (Djskites) writes: >From: djskites@aol.com (Djskites) >Subject: Re: Eastern League Event >Date: 28 Jan 1995 16:25:24 -0500 >Ya'all come down now. >I hope to see some old faces and hopefully a lot of new ones too! >I'm scheduled to be there and I hope some other folks show up as well. >The hurricane should be finished by then. >Any one down that way know if it is worth bringing a buggy? I like the way you think, Dodd. I have actually buggied at St. George Island and the best possible answer to your question is a firm "maybe". You will *not* have a lot of hard pack to deal with. The beach is steep and the tide range is pretty poor. I can't tell you how much because I don't have tide data on that area with me right now. I'll follow up tomorrow with the tide data, but I have to hit the library first. I had a great time there buggying at the state park, but only because I used the road and they shut me down as soon as they found me. Of course if Rodger got a permit and they closed some of the road, it could be alot of fun. There won't be alot of traffic out there at the north east end of the state park. As for the local, it is very pretty--especially the state park. There are broad undeveloped dunes in the park. Outside the park, it's lots of houses on stilts. So Judy, where exactly is the event? How about a buggy permit? Incidentally, the island is a few miles outside of Apalachicola which is southwest of Tallahassee in the Florida Panhandle. It is oriented predominately SW to NE.
