In fact, identical. I don't know if it was intentional, but Roger Chewning assures us that since the applications were put out that way, they're not going to change. So if you blow your figures in Ocean City, you get a second chance at Wildwood. MASKC (Mid-Atlantic Stunt Kite Championships) is having a team seminar on Friday given by 3 time World Champs, Team High Performance. Anyone who was at Alan Nagao's seminar last year at Wildwood, can assure you it's worth the price of admission. ECSKC (East Coast Stunt Kite Championships) is schedule to have a first time indoor ballet competition on Friday night. They didn't say whether it is limited to 2 line kites or 4 line kites. (or whether David Brittan will be competing) Also on tap, seminars on solo flying, multiple kite flying, kite traction and other fun topics given by people like Lee Sedgewick, David Brittan, Joe Perron, Brian Vanderslice, and Fritz Gramkowski (are you going to be teaching buggying?) I did this last year and it was a great way to get started with these unique types of flying. I also highly recomend the Judging seminar. The East Coast Stunt Kite Championships are held every Memorial Day weekend, in Wildwood, NJ. This will be the ninth year. Wildwood is on the southern New Jersey shore, approximately 45 minutes south of Atlantic City. It's about a 2 hour drive from Philadelphia; longer from New York City, I can't say how long. Spectators are welcome, although there typically aren't a lot; like most US competitions it's mostly competitors. ECSKC is a sport kite competition, although they are slowly adding single line happenings. All classes and most events are run. At one time it was the largest competition (in competitors) in the world; it probably still is in the USA. It certainly is one of the oldest, and best run. (NOTE: I'm biased -- I helped with the organization in the early years.) Other happenings are a Rules Book forum (reviewing the AKA sport kite rules, and Eastern League variations), an indoor flying competition, a banquet, and a judges seminar (which I will be helping to teach). Wildwood on Memorial Day weekend is a cross between a circus and Florida at spring break. Saturday and Sunday the boardwalk is awash in pheromones, as high school and early college kids troll for members of the opposite sex. It can be intimidating for the first time attendee, as there are a *lot* of competitors and and a *lot* of things going on. However, it can be an amazing experience: you can meet sport kite superstars, see some wonderful performances, and get flying tips and training from the best. Even if you aren't going to compete you should still register so you can get into the banquet. The schedule shows things starting on Friday at 1PM, and running through Monday. If you can swing it, it's best to arrive Thursday and depart Tuesday. Traffic on Friday is heavy; Monday afternoon/evening is god-awful. Contact Sky Festival Productions, 215-736-3715, for registration details and more info. You'll probably talk to Roger Chewning, who with Fran Gramkowski started ECSKC. Tell him "hobbitt sentcha". ++hobbitt = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sat, 2 Apr 1994 05:54:58 -1000 From: girbo@aol.com Message-Id: <9404021054.tn351975@aol.com> Organization: Division of Applied Sciences, Harvard University Subject: Re: East Coast Deja Vu ECSKC will take place May 27-30. In the case of rain or wind delays, Monday is also scheduled for competition. Spectators are welcome for all events. I also highly recomend the Judging : I will be teaching buggying probaly on Friday afternoon and most of Monday, but I haven't checked the tides yet. There is also likly to be informal buggy racing going on Monday, like there was last year. I have heard that the beach at Wildwood got pretty hard this winter from high tides and flooding from storms, so the tide position may not be too important. I will be buggy as much as possible at Wildwood this year. The beach is large enough so that even when there are bunches of tourists sunning themselfs there is still enough room to buggy.
