Potalk, George. Aeropleustikee technee--the aeropleustic art; or navigation in the air by the use of kies or buoyant sails. London, W. Wilson, printer, 1827. this book was apparently reprinted in san francisco by E. L. Sterne in 1969. both editions are very obscure. the second entry: Angelo, Michael The drawing school for little masters and misses, containing the most easy and concise rules for learning to draw without the assistance of a teacher, embellished with a great variety of figures...to which are added the whole art of kite making and the author's new discoveries in the preparation of water colours. London, Printed for T. Carnan, at number 65, in St. Paul's Church Yard, 1774. this book went through several editions in the 1770's. both of the above books are undoubtedly in special collections in libraries and probably unavailable for interlibrary loan so you would need to travel to a library to take a look. hope this helps. if anyone would like locations that report owning either book, let me know including where you live, and i'll do a bit of research and post back to you. john campbell grand junction, colorado a happy librarian and kiteflyer = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 27 Jun 1994 09:02:30 -1000 From: Colin_Douthwaite@equinox.gen.nz (Colin Douthwaite) Message-Id: Organization: Equinox Networks Subject: Re: early kites Marty Sasaki (mss@das.harvard.edu) wrote: : The bug is still alive... : ---------- Forwarded message ---------- : Date: Wed, 22 Jun 1994 06:43:30 -0600 (MDT) : From: John Campbell : Subject: early kites : in response to brian johnsen's enquiry, i did a bit of checking in : the oclc database (it's the national bibliographic database of : some 30,000,000 records) : a search on subject kites from 1600-1750 turned up nothing : a search on subject kites from 1750-1850 turned up a couple of : intriguing entries. : Potalk, George. : Aeropleustikee technee--the aeropleustic art; or navigation in the air by : the use of kies or buoyant sails. : London, W. If the libraries holding these copies can be located couldn't they just photocopy the entire text - at an agreed price of course to cover library costs ?
