Spectra My local kite store has started stocking Dyneema line instead of Spectra (at least, for 150lb line). It's significantly cheaper (around 12GBP for 300ft as opposed to around 20GBP for Spectra) and appears to be very similar. Before I switch to Dyneema, can anyone confirm that it will not cut Spectra (or vice versa) and that it is of similar quality? Cheers Bob -- Robert J. I have seen samples of Dyneema and it does look very similar to Spectra. I suspect that the difference in price has more to do with import/export factors than with the quality of the material. Spectra is manufactured in the USA while Dyneema is made in Europe. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Operations Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: 30 Mar 1993 15:24:24 +0100 From: pat@cs.strath.ac.uk (Patrick Prosser) Message-ID: <1p9l6o$9jl@kelvin-02.cs.strath.ac.uk> Organization: Comp. However, I would not suggest that you have in your right hand dyneema, and in your left hand spectra (or even the other way round for that matter :-). Our local kite shop doesn't stock spectra any more, and I don't think anyone really notices. Patrick = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
