First, let me say that although you will find this very hard to believe, every word is true! (although I have no witnesses to prove it,,,well, one, but,,,he's a duck) So I'm out flying my half-pint spinoff last night in a nice, stiff breeze. The field is beside one of those man-made lakes in our neighborhood. The lakes are a great stoppover point for migrating birds - geese, ducks, etc, - and a few of them make it their home for the summer. Anyway, I'm flying away, and here a telltale 'quackquackquack', then this duck buzzes my kite! I couldn't beleive it! I thought either he didn't see it (not likely) or he was just 'checking it out' - it was making quite a bit of noise (the kite). Anyway, about a minute later he does it again! He was a lot closer - maybe 5 feet away from the kite - this time. Obviously this duck means business. I can only assume he was protecting his turf or perhaps a young family. I didn't want to hurt the darned thing, so I crash-dove the kite, but waht does the duck do - he lands (ungracfully) right beside the kite and proceeds to bombard it with quacks! I was laughing so hard I came this --> <-- close to peeing my pants. Theres this duck quacking at my kite from maybe 10 feet away! He kept it up for about 5 minute, then wandered back to the pond. He gave me a few more quacks as I was packing up. I just hope he gets over this attitude thing..thats the only place I fly! I mean its his home, and I'll gladly yield to him, but you'd think he wouldn't mind sharing! Has anyone else had such experiences with birds? Now that i think about it,,this brings a whole new dimension into the fighter-kite field, doesn't it? Not quite so silly as your duck, but I had an Alfred Hitchcock style flock come check out and then seriously swarm one of my kites only a couple of weeks ago. This was not just one or two birds but probably a couple of hundred. We did not seem to be a danger to each other, so I kept flying and they kept buzzing. After maybe 10 minutes they left. One day they will come back for me..... --- ____________________________Andrew Hawken______________________________ "However many ways there may be of being alive, it is certain that there are vastly more ways of being dead" R Dawkins. Plus, if you are awarded damages - DON'T TAKE CHECKS FROM GULLS! They have a bad habit of writing bad ones! Brian, last week I was flying my kite for a ballet routine and I was near water now this was just a practice I'am flying fairly fast and as I was near the edge of the wind this bird came right beside my kite and stayed with it. so I flew to the right edge of the wind and it flew with me just about 2 feet away so I thought this was som something else so now I'am at the top of the wind window and I'am shaking my kite, and then the bird took off , but it didn't seemed bothered. This would make one hell of a kite ballet, if the bird would cooperate. p.s. sorry for the sloppy typing I just joined internet and I am learning how to correct these typos zexit exit z z Help HELP = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Fri, 1 Jul 1994 07:49:26 -1000 From: kiteman@pro-entropy.cts.com (Mr. Kiteman) Message-Id: <1994Jul1.124926.763@pro-entropy.cts.com> Organization: Pro-Entropy +1-305-265-9073 (DAR Systems Int'l -- Miami, FL) Subject: Re: Duck!
