Discussion about joining diamonds together for multi-line flying Report on the World Cup in Berkeley Detailed workshop on construction of Cody war kites. (Anne - You want to get this!) More small workshops on subjects that I can't identify (one by our very own Simo Salanne) I'd like to note an advert: I think that there was a discussion here about vinyls slipping. The manufacturer of the vinyls that are made in a "T" shape and bend, locking in place appear to be: Jaco Design & Engineering, Alpsteinstr. 10 CH-8590 Romanshorn (Switzerland?) Phone & Fax: +41 71 611012 Another festival report (Can't work out where - it says something about Paprika) with countless kites, also description about how to make them. Report about Japanese fliers visiting Dusseldorf to fly traditional kites. (Can anyone explain what is going on in the diagram on page 73?) Workshop on building a goldfish. This is similar to in style to Martin Lester's Whale. It requires 18m of fabric. Workshop on building a high aspect ratio spineless stunter. This appears to be a development from the speedwing. Some time ago the editor/owner phoned me and asked if I would mind if they used a table of figures on tetrahedral vertices, from an article I wrote for the newsletter of the Kite Soc of GB. They said that they would give me 1 years free subscription to the magazine. I said okay. In fact, they COPIED the bulk of the article, and gave NOTHING in return. I've always (even before this issue, really) thought very highly of Drachen's quality. Their use of color and the depth of their stories is excellent. (I judge this by the length of the stories and the use of photos--mostly full color--and in-depth diagrams). The reason I'm mentioning this is that they have, along side of the picture of me doing an axel, there is a picture of Chad Morrison. That's chAd Morrison, not chEd like they printed it. Also, Chad turned 5 earlier this summer, not 3, like the caption says. I wish I knew what the article _said_; I kept picking out "Berkely Axel" out of the text, but I have no idea what context they were using it in (viz., "at Berkely, they have this really [insert "dumb looking" or "hot new"] move called the Axel"). They also seemed to have said something about the fact that the editor/publisher or something's name is "Axel Vohs", and played upon this somehow. Anybody out there know what the article said? (I knew I should have taken German as a second language--what am I supposed to do with a working knowledge of French, anyhow?). -- _______ Steve Thomas steveth@netcom.com "I'm doing just fine. To satisfy your curiosity: The text to this picture explains how much humor the people at this festival have. If there is no wind, there is always a pilot you can fasten to your line. > Another festival report (Can't work out where - it says something about > Paprika) :-) It was in Hungary. > Report about Japanese fliers visiting Dusseldorf to fly traditional kites. > (Can anyone explain what is going on in the diagram on page 73?) It's a view from the top onto a bunch of people, pulling on the line of a big kite. One person sits on the floor and holds a roll where the line goes through (the red circle with the upside-down "V" attached to it). Two people hold the line in the right direction and the rest is running in a circle, pulling at the line while running along it. So they don't need much room. I hope I was able to explain this. I should work on my vocab. > Andrew Markus -- Markus Witt, Hamburg (Germany) markus@mwhh.hanse.de No one really knows what matresses are meant to gain from their lives either.
