Or was the DC channel informed but failed to incorporate this into their show? It was a good display of what the buggy is about, but it was also a short ill-placed advertisement for a particular kite. They were focused on the current sport. If the show was about, "the history of powerkiting", then maybe that would have a place. Besides, as it stands, I'm sure Peter Lynn's been on plenty of TV shows... ____________ Steve Thomas steveth@mindnet.com = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sat, 11 Nov 1995 16:46:59 -1000 From: daveculp@bdt.com (Dave Culp) Message-Id: Organization: Beckemeyer Development, Oakland CA Subject: Re: Discovery Channel (No credit where due) In article <481eji$pfq@shellx.best.com>, steveth@mindnet.com wrote: > On 9 Nov 1995 07:08:14 GMT, Steve Bateman > wrote: > > >Correct me if my comments are misplaced, but I didn't hear any > >mention to the person who first started and promoted the buggy and > >totally soft multiline kites (at least in my mind), Peter Lynn. > >Or was the DC channel informed but failed to incorporate this > >into their show? Peter Lynn certainly did *not* invent soft stuntable kites, or buggying, or quad-line kiting. He certainly wasn't the first (by about 160 years, and possibly by 1000, if the Chinese and/or Polynesians used their excellent kites and minds) to pull a vehicle with kites. While Peter did popularize buggying (this time around), and makes some darn good equipment, he is a shrewd developer and businessman, not a saint. -- ################################################################### Dave Culp Speedsailing 312 Flaming Oak Drive Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 USA e-mail: daveculp@bdt.com http://www.bdt.com:80/home/daveculp/speedsail.html ################################################################### = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 15 Nov 1995 20:06:17 -1000 From: Steve Bateman Message-Id: <48ekcp$g5p@hole.sdsu.edu> Organization: San Diego State University Subject: Re: Discovery Channel (No credit where due) daveculp@bdt.com (Dave Culp) wrote: > > In article <481eji$pfq@shellx.best.com>, steveth@mindnet.com wrote: > > > On 9 Nov 1995 07:08:14 GMT, Steve Bateman > > wrote: > > > > >Correct me if my comments are misplaced, but I didn't hear any > > >mention to the person who first started and promoted the buggy and > > >totally soft multiline kites (at least in my mind), Peter Lynn. > > >Or was the DC channel informed but failed to incorporate this > > >into their show? > > > Peter Lynn certainly did *not* invent soft stuntable kites, or buggying, > or quad-line kiting. But I do feel that the strides he has provided to our wonderful kite world should have been mentioned on the show. When most of the buggys have been made after his design, and all retail soft stunters play catch-up to Peels, I think that this "non-saint" deserves a mention. I would like to know the history of multiline soft kites; maybe you could provide some names with first kites. Thanks.
