If they receive many complaints, maybe something will happen. I don't know if harassment via rec.kites is considered in the same manner as email. (In some ways it is worse since it is out in public.) I am not asking people to complain but merely informing people as to a possible path of recourse. -- Lee Hetherington ilh@lcs.mit.edu = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 21 Mar 1995 09:56:13 -1000 From: coreykite@aol.com (Coreykite) Message-Id: <3knb0t$3nb@newsbf02.news.aol.com> Organization: America Online, Inc. (In some ways it is worse since it is out in : public.) As a veteran of many more "angry" groups here on Usenet (viz. *.politics.*), I can say that "harassment" is definately not something that can happen via rec.kites. Usually, the only time posters are asked to leave (from a given provider) is for abuses of the system (such as sending out posts to 11,000 newsgroups, or other automated nastiness). It is *very rare* (if not unheard of) that somebody gets booted for their editorial content. Usually, it is because they crossed the line into illegal activity (viz. threats of physical violence, etc.). Frank's posts, however odiuous, do not even come close to crossing the line, by Usenet standards. Usenet's the Wild West--with all the advantages and disadvantages that entails. System Admin's are too busy dealing with White Arian Nation members to mess around with somebody talking about far less volitile subjects (even if the posts are "abusive"). My point is, you got to put it into perspective. Also, remember the 'Next' button, or Killfiles. -- ____________ Steve Thomas steveth@netcom.com = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
