I'm planning on going to the Newport SKC and would like to see part of the Black Ships Festival while I'm there. I called the Chamber of Commerce and they did not have any info on Black Ships - they gave me a phone number to call which led to a dead end. Does anyone know either anything about this festival, i.e., when where what, etc. so I know whether to go early of late, wher do I get tickets, do I need tickets, etec. Or who do I call for such info???? Or who do I call for such info???? This is strange. I just called the Chamber of Commerce and they gave me a short blurb and the number of the Japan America Society. The number is 401-846-2720. The Black Ships Festival has all sorts of Japanese events including martial arts demonstrations, sumo wresting matches, tea ceremony demonstrations, shiatsu massage, and origami workshops. There is also Japanese food and drink.
