While I suppose it goes without saying, I will say it anyway: Do not believe everything you see posted in rec.kites to be fact. I am *NOT* a lawyer, but as an artist it is in my best interests to be "up to speed" on things "copyright." The recent postings on copyrights (with the very notable exception of those postings by Mauricio Araujo, which are "right on the money") are misleading, inaccurate, and outright *WRONG!* It is very easy to obtain correct information, best of all it's FREE! The fastest way is to call the Forms and Publications Hotline: (202) 707-9100 You will leave a recorded message, follow the recorded instructions and request the Copyright Information Kit for the Visual Arts. If you prefer to write the address is: Copyright Office Publications Section, LM-455 Library of Congress Washington, DC 20559 Again, request the Copyright Information Kit for the Visual Arts. ince it would seem very few people tried to get this information I should point out (besides the fact that it is FREE, FREE, FREE) that it is presented in a very easy to read and understand format of short circulars. While you will also receive the 120 page booklet: Copyright Law of the United States of America, as well as its revisions, most of the questions you may have will be addressed in the circulars which run in length from about half a page to four pages. I should also point out that since Oct. 1, 1988, the U.S.A. has been a signatory of the Berne Convention, so the information you will receive is also in accordance with international copyright law. There are a number of interesting questions that arise re: copyright, trademarks, and design patents as they apply to kites. And I would love to see them discussed in rec.kites, but inorder to discuss them accurately and properly alot more people need to know what they are talking about. SEND (or call) FOR THE INFORMATION! In the interest of accuracy, I noticed and error in my posting that would bother me if I did not correct it (besides the capital "S" I somehow ommited from the word: "Since"). The United States became a signatory to the Berne Convention on Oct.31, 1988 (not Oct.1st). There, I feel better now....
