The question came about today as I was trying to convince my fiancee to compete in IPB with me next season. She's not into ballet and asked why there is no pairs precision. I said good question I know just where to find the answer. One other quick question if rec.kites were to break up where would I ask this, in the rec.kite.questions .proposed.by.your.fiancee or what? In Europe there is precision and ballet at each pair competition. Pair competitions are run in the same mode like team. There is an overall score as well at each pair competition, so we have a winner in precision, in ballet and overall at each competition. --- OffRoad 1.9k registered to Gertraud Umlauft = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 14 Dec 1995 13:40:43 -1000 From: sqedison@aol.com (SQEdison) Message-Id: <4aqclr$3bt@newsbf02.news.aol.com> Organization: America Online, Inc. As an event organizer it would mean finding 5 more judges, two line judges, a field director and pit boss and about 2 more hours on a very tight schedule. Pairs >ballet is beautiful but pairs precision would be boring. As a flyer with experience in individual, pair, team flying and a little judging I cannot agree with you. In Europe we fly pair precision as well and it is as "boring" as individual or team precision (or not). If you do not understand what the pilots are doing in precision, it can be boring for people whatching e.g. the compulsory figures. But if there is a good speaker, who guides the people through the competition, telling them what they should whatch at a special compulsory figure or a freestyle routine, they quickly find out, who flies the figures precisely and who not. I think, if someone knows what there happens on the field, it could be exciting whatching even precision of all kinds of formations. I think we should regard the precision as one branche of kiting. There we must train our skills, must fly very precise (everyone, who flies compulsory figures knows, that this is not as easy as it sometimes look like). In freestyle you must develope an interesting routine containing many technical stuff and tricks ( here in Europe you must even show some axels, slides, stalls or other tricks in pair precision, without you cannot get a good score). If you only fly ballet, the esssential is interpreting the music. The score of choreography is worth 60, the execution only 40 This means, you can get a good score with an outstanding choreography with only few technical contents or unprecise execution. But a good kiteflyer needs both, a good technique and a good feeling for expression he can do through a kite. BTW:in Europe we get a score for precision, ballet and overall in all formations, even in quadline. >Judy Tate of the drones has asked for pairs precision also. >As an event organizer it would mean finding 5 more judges, two line >judges, a field director and pit boss and about 2 more hours on a very >tight schedule. What for? Not for the organizers, but for the flyers! What for do we make competitions? Because there are some pilots, who want to compare their skills in flying a kite. Because we feel that kite flying is a sport worth to develope. And if we want kite flying to develope, we must give the flyers the opportunity , to develope new skills ( and to test them in competitions). With a little amount of organisation the event organisers can manage to fill in a pair precision as well. I think it is necessary to fly precision in all formations, even if my pair Duo Mozartello (with Monika Morgenthaler from Swiss team Lucky Landing Albatros) is speciallised in ballet (2nd in Euro Cup 94 pair ballet, lost 2 places through precision), because precision training is very difficult over a 1000km distance. Greeting Gertraud Umlauft- I also fly team & pairs and love team precision so I understand what you mean about that side of the sport but how do you fit it all to a tight schedule ? Where do you draw the line what to do in the time constraints of a two day event?? The flyers have to tell the event organizers what they like. But as a flyer I still feel pair precision is boring. When you add a third it gets good for me. What do you think most people like??? I don't know? Good Sky SQE = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
