The Tyvek sold in lumber yards is a thicker, heavier, material, besides having Dupont's logo all over it. It's also the stiff variety (type 10) like they use to make mailing envelops. Tom has sold the stiff type in the past, but there is a type 14 which is type 10 that has been run through a calendaring process to make it soft and allow it to drape like fabric. This frequently comes in wider 54" rolls if you can find someone who has it. As for opacity, cut-outs, especially on Roks and such, seems to be the latest craze. Why not try combining acrylics with cut-out areas and cover these areas with colored mylar gift wrap. I've seen a wide variety of colors in gift and dollar stores. You should be able to layer it for some really wild effects and the Tyvek would give the kite some durability.
