I know the feeling. I used to live in Chicago. Flew off Lake Michigan in some extreme weather, that's why kite flying is more popular in the summer months in the Windy City. see you at the Hawaii Challenge March 3,4,5 1995 at the base of Diamond Head ? call Robert at (808) -922-KITE for info. enjoy ps. weather today is the usual 80's ish, sunny............................ = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Fri, 24 Feb 1995 08:03:15 -1000 From: Terry_Reabel@carletonbe.ottawa.on.ca (Terry Reabel) Message-Id: <1217462238.150194713@carletonbe.ottawa.on.ca> Organization: Carleton Board of Education Subject: Re: cold weather flying Ok, here goes, it was so cold that .............. (smirk) Last year I suffered frost bite on my cheeks three time due to wind chill of approx -60*C (-76*F) while wind skiing. this was the only part of my body that was exposed. This year I have a full face helmet with visor, but it isn't anywhere that cold this winter., go figure. (Also, where did the #$@#$@ wind go?) People are right, in most cases you will suffer more in the cold than your kite will. On the other hand for example with one of my sparred kites, flew my Jabberwocky, 2 wrap advantage frame, New Year's Day in -5*C (23*F), no problem.three weeks later in -10*C (14F) crushed the leading edge spar at the top fitting while putting it together. Fitting was rock hard and the spar had becom brittle, bad combination, guess I was to eager to fly. Have never had that type of problem before but this is my first s.u.l framed kite.
