I would dearly like to borrow a tape (and copy it). BTW, what do people use for wing spars in medium-sized deltas? I have a 2.5m span Conyne delta with 6mm dowelling (8mm for the spreader) which suffered a major trauma yesterday in 15-25mph+ gusting winds. It collapsed spectacularly with all 3 spines and 2 wing spars breaking simultaneously. I have now fitted 4mm fibreglass rod to the wing spars . I measured the spars in one of my Dan Leigh deltas which is about that size. He used 8mm dowel spars, 10mm dowel spreader. I have an even larger Delta Conyne (4m span) made by Sun Oak which has 12mm square *hardwood* spars. These have never broken though the kite has sometimes crashed in a way that I would have expected to break spars made of lesser material. In my experience, fibreglass breaks much less readily but is capable of doing much more damage to the kite when it does so. jed = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1993 21:03:43 -1000 From: allanc@syacus.acus.oz.au (Allan Charlton) Message-Id: Organization: Australian Centre for Unisys Software, ACUS Subject: Re: Cody broadcast puc@aber.ac.uk (Paul Crowley) writes: >Did anyone manage to tape the programme on Sam Cody broadcast last >thursday (16/9/93) around lunchtime on BBC2. I have used 6mm and 4mm in mine; for the size of yours I'd suggest 6mm. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
