I'm interested in buying a kite in the $100 range. I'll be going home over winter break, and I'm unsure whether I should mail order one or wait until I get home and look around there. If anyone has any addresses or names (especially north of downtown and the northern suburbs), I would be especially grateful. Also, how do the prices compare to mail-order prices. Am I better of buying in Chicago to avoid shipping costs? Reply via e-mail. Thanks in advance. Thanks : in advance. : Rob Reichner : rreichne@reed.edu hi rob: there's a hobby shop in evanston called "tiny tim" or "tom thumb" or something like that (i think it's the latter). it's on one of the main streets up there. when i visited my then fiancee' (now wife) at northwestern last year, i stop by. they seemed to have an okay selection (they at least had rev's which is what i was looking for). nothing like a dedicated kite shop however. about avoiding shipping costs, you might wanna consider that sales tax in chicagoland is something unrighteous like 8.5! and i suspect evanston's is the same or close. so if $8.50 < shipping, get it in chicagoland :) enjoy. /r/ = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1993 06:11:44 -1000 From: sasaki@das.harvard.edu (Marty Sasaki) Message-Id: <1993Dec13.161144.27672@das.harvard.edu> Organization: Harvard University Subject: Re: Chicago Kite Stores In article <2eastt$hps@scratchy.reed.edu>, rreichne@reed.edu (Attrition) writes: >If anyone has any addresses or names (especially north of downtown >and the northern suburbs), I would be especially grateful. I don't know where they actually are, but check out the Chicago Kite Company. They have kites of all types, and Bob and Wilma Neiman own and operate it. Bob Neiman is also the AKA rep for the region. They know their stuff and will provide good service. As far as buying kites locally versus mail order, try to factor in service. Most local folks charge more than mail order companies. What you may get is good service and advice on kites and flying. As an example, Bob is part of Chicago Fire, a well known team. He can talk to you about team flying and tuning and all sorts of other things. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1993 08:35:10 -1000 From: spar@cbnewsg.cb.att.com (al.j.sparling) Message-Id: Organization: AT&T Subject: Re: Chicago Kite Stores >From article <2eastt$hps@scratchy.reed.edu>, by rreichne@reed.edu (Attrition): > I'm looking for kite stores in the Chicagoland area. > Chicago Kite (Most knowledgable about competion) 6 S.
