Hi all, Some times ago, someone (Bert Tanaka ?) mentioned Ron Reich's 3 fingers straps. I have just figured a simple way to build cheaps 3 fingers straps. They might be not as good as Ron's. Please remember not to use them in a too strong wind. It took me longer to imagine a way to describe them than to build them ! Please remember my english is poor, I may not use the correct words, but it is so simple, I think (I hope !) you will find your way through the following description. If it is unclear maybe someone else (having catch the idea) would be able to express it better. All you need for a pair of straps is 1 meter or so of 8 to 10 mm rope. Mine is hollow and can be flattend (no more circular) it costs 1$ for 3 meters : cheap isn't it !. I will first describe something which is not exactly the actual straps. Do as if you would larkhead the rope around your hand (4 fingers excuding the thumb), hold the loop beetween the thumb an the index. The loop will be the point where you will attach your line (guess how : larkhead!). Now fold the 2 loose ends of the rope. Cut them at 1 or 2 cm. from the loop and stich through 4 and 6 layers of rope. You have got it. Now the real thing : the loose ends sould be in between the loop. That is to say you will not realy do a larkhead. The point is to have room to pass the line in the loop. Now a trial ascii picture : touch with B. V is the point where you sould attach your line ----- means a single tread of rope ===== means 2 treads of rope o means the rope is doing a loop around the vertical (in the picture) part of the loop X | . _V_ | . | -------------====o | o=====----------- | | . | | | | | | | A | Fingers | . | Fingers | B | | | | | | | . | | | | | | | | | | | | ----------------- . ---------------- | Y Remarques : -You should use 4 fingers to have room enough so that the strap is comfortable when used with 3 fingers. -At o you will stich through 6 layers of rope, at ==== through 4 layers. -The line sould be attach so that it is closer to the thumb. -The size of the loop (o to V) sould be small. Well, with the hope you have got it, I wish you good winds. Philippe. -- Philippe Lepez (CP 125), | | Good kite Universite Libre de Bruxelles, | Email: plepez@ulb.ac.be | + Good wind 50 av.
