He always spoke to folks coming along the trail, greeting them and welcoming newcomers to the village. One day a traveler came along and asked, "How are the people in this village?" The old man replied with a question of his own, "How did you find the people in the last village you visited?" The traveler replied, "Nicest group of people I've ever met. They were kind, friendly, always smiling, and would give you bread from their table and the shirt from their back, if you needed that." The old man replied, "I think you'll find folks pretty much the same in this village.", and the traveler thanked him and went on his way.. By and by another traveler came along and was greeted by the old man. The traveler asked, "How are the people in this village?" The old man again replied with a question of his own, "How did you find the people in the last village you visited?" The traveler replied, "Worst example of humanity I've ever met! They walked around with a continuous frown, lied, cheated and would steal you blind if you gave them half a chance." "I see," the old man replied, "I think you'll find folks pretty much the same in this village." ===== I've always liked this tale because it demonstrates that by and large, you create your _own_ reality.. It applies equally to Andrew, Dr. Kyte, and _all_ the rest of us.. Even Mr. Nasty.. You'll be better remembered if you add a little more jerk-a**holeness, like me.
