In a recent posting Mr. Jim Poy outlined the recent revisions to the
competitive qualification system being used for Canadian AKA
members.  While the essence of his outline was correct, it is not
quite complete. 

The changes in order of importance:

>2. A.K.A member, regardless where they live, can "declare" a
>conference of their choice by contacting the commissioner

This is the really significant part.  You must contact the
commissioner for your desired region A.S.A.P. (See Kiting for the
correct person to contact.)


>1. If an A.K.A member that resides outside the United States (ie.
>Canadians) qualifies for competition, through participation in a
>declared A.K.A conference, they will represent that conference at
>the A.K.A convention.


>3. An event (ie. Canadian) may petition to be included in a
>conference other than where it is physically located. The
>Festivals and Competitions committee must approve the petition.
>Events will only be listed in one conference.


>4. Any A.K.A members who reside outside the U.S.A (ie. Canadians)
>will still have a slot available to represent his or her country.

Point number 4 makes reference to the system of qualification used
in 1993.  That is, if you have not declared your participation in a
specific conference you may still compete as a representative of
your country.  These representatives, one per category, will be
chosen based on submissions to the AKA liasons for your region.
This option will be most useful for those who have not planned to
compete seriously over the year, but find themselves drawn more into
competition as the season progresses. 

Which brings me to my last point. We are the official AKA liasons
for Canada. We are available to answer questions, recieve
proposals, listen to suggestions, and otherwise help to clarify
matters.
