I just finished designing graphics for a new 8.02M^2, 3.951:1 aspect Sputnik that I'm building (profile patterns made so far). What was really cool was using a CAD package called Vector CAD. Downloaded it off the net, only 49.95 to register it. Runs under windoze with minimal configuration, fast and easy to use, especially since it's fully OLE complient (drag and drop stuff). In many ways I found it superior to even Autocad, much faster to use. And it's 3D and rotates views in real time on screen. A .tif graphic can be exported from any view for use in Photoshop for rendering surfaces and playing with colors, etc. It also exports .dxf files which are importable into vector graphics programs like Freehand and Illustrator. ***Way too cool!!!!!*** What is really great is it's ability to create machining paths, which I used to make all of the seam allowances for individual pieces of fabric. The auto-dimensioning features are fantastic. The best part is importation into photoshop where, from scanned samples of fabric, I could pantone match actual colors and apply them to the image of the kite, add a sky and clouds background, slight motion and wind effects, etc. A picture of your kite before it's built! Sorry to be so long winded... I get overexcited about such cool stuff easily! I don't know the URL right now, just do a WEB search on "CAD" or "Vector CAD". I'm not connected with the outfit in any way, just thought some of you might like to know about it. Their address is: W. Webworks P.O.
