Subject: Builing a scaled up Phantom/North Shore Extreme Message-ID: <1993Feb1.165640.6369@midway.uchicago.edu> From: ar12@quads.uchicago.edu (Andre Robotewskyj) Date: Mon, 1 Feb 93 11:56:40 EST Organization: University of Chicago Hi there, I've decided to build a 16' scaled-up version of the Phantom, and have a quick question regarding sail shape- I assume the sail w/panels is drawn out flat at a slightly higher wing aspect ratio, therefore when the kite is assembled with spreaders in place (aspect ratio of assembled kite < aspect ratio of flat, spread-out sail) there results a certain amount of sail "slack" increasing towards the trailing edge (slack is of course taken up by stand-offs)- My question, then is this- how much slack should I design into the sail- ie: angle at apex of assembled kite is approx 100 degrees; what angle should I use in design of the "flat" sail? Is +10 degrees too much? Thanks, Andre . = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
