I was thinking of camping out there. What kind of facilities can we expect? Probably none on the lake bed, but what about in town. I was under the understanding that there was a town nearby. ******************************************************** *Greetings from behind the redwood curtain; Arcata, CA * *Dave Neumeier don1@axe.humboldt.edu :) * ******************************************************** = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 1 Nov 1995 10:36:17 -1000 From: coreykite@aol.com (Coreykite) Message-Id: <478lo1$196@newsbf02.news.aol.com> Organization: America Online, Inc. We're planning on camping out there a few nights also. There are NO facilities on the lake bed, bring TP, water, sun screen, and carry away everything (trash)you bring. The nearest town is Adelanto on on state road 395 with nearby Victorville on interstate 15 offering more services. Some folks are talking about staying in Palmdale which is to the east, but it is a 40 min ride from the lake bed. Personally i want to be as close as possible and have always found staying at the Days Inn to be acceptable. Dan the Wind Wizard is going over to the area during thanksgiving to find out about motels in Victorville and will report on that when he returns. We've found that most socialazation takes place on the lake anyway. We're usually to tired to do any thing but crash by the time we get back to the motel. The nights are extremley beautiful in the desert. If you are planning on attending we would like to know. If you know someone who is planning and they are not a rec.kiter, please let us know. While this is an un-organized event, we still would like to make it as painless as possible to first timers, so let us know ! The motel in Adelanto is not very big. Motel in Adelanto is the Days Inn. There are more down at the south end of the lake bed, near the entrance. But thats about a 5-8min drive. The city of Adelanto is about 15 minutes away, with a couple of small motels. The city of Victorville is about 25-30 minutes away, with whatever you could ask for. If you're planning on tenting it out there, bring sharpe stakes as the ground could still be real hard. And it's going to be cold also. Dan Rubesh will probobly post a more complete list of places to stay out there.
