The funny thing is that they actually appeared in rec.kites. I could read them and even got replies, so the postings seemed to be ok. Has anyone any idea how this could happen and how to stop it. I already get enough e-mail and don't need my own articles to come in addition ;-). I already |>get enough e-mail and don't need my own articles to come in addition ;-). Welcome to the magical world of the Internet! The bounced postings are due to the rec.kites/email gateway, or rather, due to broken mailers on the net. People are constantly subscribing to the mailing list. When they move on, some neglect to tell the mailing list maintainer that they have moved so that I can remove, or change their email address. Mail sent to bad addresses bounce. Also machines sometimes temporarily become unreachable, so the mail bounces until the machines are connected again. The mail is supposed to be bounced back to kites-request@harvard.edu. Usually this happens. Sometimes a mailer will be misconfigured or otherwise broken and the message bounces back to the original sender. Sometimes the message bounces back to the entire mailing list. When I see bad messages I try to delete them, but I've been very busy at work recently so sometimes it takes longer to catch the bad messages. I attribute the problem to cyber nomes...they're the little beasties that do stuff like this so we can sit around for weeks trying to figure out what's wrong...meanwhile the cyber nomes are laughing their butts off. Maybe Marty or Andrew has a better explination...no matter, Kai...you and I now know the rest of the story. Kai, You are lucky, I've been having trouble lately with my postings even making it to rec.kites. They are out there somewhere... Let's see if this one makes it. :) -=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=-=*=- Gina Hsiung North Library Annex email: ghsiung@csun.edu Technical Services Dept.
