I belong to the Sea Coast Kity Flyers, a club that flys at Lynn/Nahant beach. We USED to have monthly meetings, but that has not happened for a while now. WE STILL FLY, just have a little organizational problems at the moment. The largest "local" group is the Kite Flyers Over New England (KONE), whose annual meeting is coming up Feb 18th at Brannen Brothers Flute Makers in Woburn MA. I can provide directions if you wish. To find flying events in the Boston/New England area the best bet is the KITE LOVERS OF NEW ENGLAND calendar. It is available at local kite stores, and included with the monthly newsletter of KONE. There used to be the "Boston Kite Flyers" and we used to fly at Lars Anderson Park in Brookline, MA. I was the "leader", but we had no organization. "Kites Over New England" is having it's annual meeting at Brannen Brothers Flute Makers this Saturday. There is a pot-luck meal and a general good time. The business part of the meeting is usually pretty short, it depends on what needs to be done. KONE has an "official" fly on the second Saturday of the month at Bose Mountain (at the intersection of Route 9 and the Massachusetts turnpike). Attendance is sporadic, I think that this is one of the things that will be discussed at the meeting. The Sea Coast Kite Flyers can be found on the beach at Nahant. Every weekend with decent weather will find someone flying on the beach. When there is sunlight in the evenings, you will often find folks flying until it is dark. There used to be a group flying out at Plymouth and Duxbury beaches. I don't know if they are still around or not. There is always someone flying out at Brenton Point State Park in Newport, RI. There used to be several kite clubs in the Newport area, but I believe that the "Friendly Flyers" are the only kite club in Newport. The Connectikiters are a pretty active club that holds kite events all over Connecticut. Another informal group flies on Hampton Beach, NH. Every year for the last several (10?) years Dan Loughlin has been holding a St. Patrick's Day fly on the beach. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@harvard.edu Network Services Division 90 Melrose Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Arlington, MA 02174 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-646-1925 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
