Subject: Books on Kite Construction Hello! I just came back from a weekend in Kill Devil Hills, NC and spent most of my time (and much of my money!) in Kitty Hawk Kites. I'm a total-mega- neophyte when it comes to kites, but I'm fascinated now and I want to learn more! Does anyone have recommendations for books on kite construction, kite flying, or both? Books designed for the complete beginner are obviously perfect, but I'd be interested in looking at books at higher levels too. --Diamond "I swear it happened just like this; a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss, The gates of love, they budged an inch- I can't say much has happened since But closing time." --Leonard Cohen = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 30 Aug 1993 11:40:29 -1000 From: rock@netcom.com (Anne Rock) Message-Id: Organization: NETCOM On-line Communication Services (408 241-9760 guest) Subject: Re: Books on Kite Construction Elizabeth Abrams (diamond@acpub.duke.edu) wrote: : Hello! : Does anyone have recommendations for books on kite construction, kite : flying, or both? Once we know more about your interests, I'm sure several people will have suggestions. Hmm. Well, I guess *everything* is a little broad, huh? :-) I think that right at the moment I'm mostly interested in single-line kites. --Diamond "I swear it happened just like this; a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss, The gates of love, they budged an inch- I can't say much has happened since But closing time." --Leonard Cohen = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 31 Aug 1993 02:34:32 -1000 From: dhiggins@bfsec.bt.co.uk (Declan Higgins) Message-Id: Organization: British Telecommunications, Belfast Subject: Re: Books on Kite Construction In article 19712@news.duke.edu, diamond@acpub.duke.edu (Elizabeth Abrams) writes: >Hello! > >I just came back from a weekend in Kill Devil Hills, NC and spent most of >my time (and much of my money!) in Kitty Hawk Kites. I recently bought Kites and Windsocks by Jim Rowland (via mail order). It was not until I read the book that I discovered that it only deals in single line kites. Can anyone recommend a book with plans and construction details for two or four line power kites (preferably soft kites but they don't have to be). This book has everything you asked for, and it is good and accurate too (as far as I know). Okay, let me suggest Margaret Gregor's "Kites for Everyone" and "More Kites for Everyone". Also pick up a copy of Bill Tyrell's "Mastering Nylon" booklet. Avoid Maxwell Eden's "Kiteworks" or any of Jim Rowland's books until you have a bit of experience. Gregor's books as well as "Mastering Nylon" can be purchased from the KiteLines book store. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
