Being a new flier, I have done some very strange things with my kite (hey, I'm self-taught, gimme a break), but last night beat everything I had done before. I took my new Prism Ion out into some gusting wind, approximately 8-9mph. Everything was going fine, so I changed the bridle settings to increase the "radical" level. Wow! What a difference *that* made! Anyway, I had it pretty high in the window, at which point I shot my arms forward and took a few steps to stall it. It stalled, and promptly flipped over. Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to pull it out of this position, and it started to slowly fall to the ground. About halfway down, it began to spin around its center, doing about 8 complete rotations, and landed, standing straight up and facing the opposite direction. I couldn't repeat this series of events if I wanted to, but that doesn't mean that I won't be trying tonight. :) -- Trav, Mr. Newbie (but very enthusiastic about it) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Fri, 22 Jul 1994 22:22:02 -1000 From: computergy@aol.com (Computergy) Message-Id: <30qjva$m6o@search01.news.aol.com> Organization: America Online, Inc. I was flying a Top o Line Hawian 3/4 in approx 35mph wind. It was also very cold out, about 40 degrees. Anyway, I was concentrating on holding onto the kite, when I tripped on the only rock within miles of where I was standing :}. Since I was on a breakwater the kite head straight down and hit on the edge of one of the breakwater rocks. It broke every vertical spar in the kite about six inches from the top. One spar shattered and ripped a hole in the fabric. My face hurt from slamming the ground, not to mention the embarassment of crashing withing sight of spectators! The kites never been the same, and I have learned alot since then.............. Any kite not entangled keeps flying until it *IS* tangled. This includes the 13 umpty-foot ribbon tails. I eventually removed all the trainlines to get it out and reassembled indoors. -- --Pete If there was something I'd rather be doing, I'd be doing it. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 24 Aug 1994 09:45:14 -1000 From: terrapin@bga.com (Scott Sexton) Message-Id: <33g80a$56d@giga.bga.com> Organization: Real/Time Communications - Bob Gustwick and Associates Subject: Re: Best crash yet. He was flying a Hawaiian Team and I was flying a Hawaiian Spinoff. Somehow we hit nose to nose. His Team went through my nosepeice and ripped through my kite all the way to the bottom spreader. We broke three spars in that crash. At that point we replaced the Teams broken spar with one of the ones from the Spin-Off adn just took turns flying until we saw lightning start and then we packed up and went home. I mailed my Spin-Off in and for $20.00 they replaced the ripped sailcloth leaving me with what looks like a custom designed kite. I still have that kite!! -- ************************************************************************** * Scott Sexton | "The 100American is 99an idiot." * * terrapin@bga.com | George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) * ************************************************************************** = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
