(1-800-827-6364) Message-ID: <4m5dnv$hap@newsbf02.news.aol.com> This past weekend, Fly Away Kites and the MOCK(Monmouth Ocean County Kitefliers), hosted this prize money event. The winners were: 1. Rich Javens (Legend IQ) - $750.00 2. Doug Laubach (Jones Airfoil Mirage) - $500.00 3. Lance Wagner (Ultra) - $250.00 4. Dorothy Wagner(Ultra) 5. Dennis Smith(Ultra) 6. Brian Vanderslice(Slicer) There were 15 entrants into the event, and skill levels ranged from seasoned veterans to intermediates. There were two heats run with the top three from each heat going to the finals. The finals used six judges also(Susie and Bill Edison, me and Sherrie, Judy Winkler, and Judy Tate). Scores were posted on a tote baord as each flier completed their respective routine. Spectators along the boardwalk applauded and cheered as each flier completed their routine. Winds were up and down for the day, so equipment choices were critical to each fliers success. Rich Javens even dipped his kite a little too close to the surf as he was practicing for the final. It was captured by the oracle, and was taught a humility lesson by breaking every spar in its frame. Rich pulled out an old team kite(Legend) from his bag, and used the extra adrenaline for his winning routine!! Dodd offered his flight school on both Saturday and Sunday. He has a really nice setup with a couple of huge EZ UP tents, HQ banners, and field tape. Think he will be at MASKC(Ocean City, MD,USA) with the same setup. I did an impromtu quadline competitor seminar on Sunday afternoon, after the regional sport kite competiton was over. Had good number of fliers attending, as well as a John Travolta Disco impersonator from one of the boardwalk spectators. Ain't life grand!?!?! Most questions at the seminar were about music selection, how do you do this and that manuver, and a few questions on the age old debate of tricks vs nontricks ballet routines. Gilbert Velasquez and MOCK did a great job handling all the fliers, organization , and promotion for the event. Tony Espisito(Fly Away Kites) has the most incredible sportkite/kite shop I have ever seen. I don't think there was not a spar, part, or kite you couldn't find in the shop. Each of the other fliers competing in the event received a true prize also. Ranging from AVIA Sport spar sets, to high performance sport kites such as aerodrone, Revolution, Airmaster, Ultra, and Dynakites. Not really sure why all 30 slots weren't taken for this event. There was a $50.00 registration fee, but each flier won at least that much in prizes as well a cool T-shirt. Anybody had the chance to take the top prize. Oh well. later>>>>>>dave arnold(who's rev is still juddering. must be the alternately sleeved and fidded unequal length quad line sets jtavo and andrew helped me with ...... ;-}}}}} = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = From: sc5@prism.gatech.edu (SPC) Subject: Re: Belmar NJ USA Event Report Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 10:50:23 -1000 Organization: Georgia Institute of Technology Message-ID: <4m5uef$3m2@acmey.gatech.edu> In article <4m5dnv$hap@newsbf02.news.aol.com>, DQuad wrote: >Not really sure why all 30 slots weren't taken for this event. If it was a little further south, I'd gave taken up one of the slots! '-) Oh well. Such is life.
