But as this is my first serious stunt kite, (previously I had a Trlby and then a low-end Skynasaur) I have a few questions. a) Has anyone had any experience with the Tek 3? Is there anything I should know or any advice anyone recommends? I read the rec.kites review of the Tek 3 and understand it's fairly adept at the latest tricks. b) I have never tied spectra line before and would like to find out how to tie a decent knot. I hear people mention surgeon's knots and overhand knots. Is there a place on the net I can find out how to tie such knots? c) I was planning on buying the Prism Guide and/or the Flight School II video to help me learn to fly better and do some of the tricks, are either of these recommended or are they more of a waste? d) What's an ideal wind speed to learn at? IE what will allow me to get some decent preformance from the kite but still not smash it to bits in a crash? c) What's a good line length to start at for a beginner, or is there one? Thanks for any help you can offer. I finally received mine and am having a lot of fun with it. Only flown it so far for a total of 5 hours but I'm really enjoying it. My best advice for your questions is to e-mail Michael Graves at Leading Edge Productions at mgraves@leadingedg.win.net, I'm sure he would be more than happy to help you. >b) I have never tied spectra line .... tie a decent knot... surgeon's knots and overhand knots. Is there a place on the net I > can find out how to tie such knots? I sleeve my spectra, loop it and tie an overhand Knot, us a larkshead knot to attach it to kite and handles,do not know what a surgeon's knot is. Check out some of the WWW home pages for info on knots >c).. buying the Prism Guide and/or the Flight School II video to help ..recommended or are > they more of a waste? Both highly recommended, I have both and especially Dodd's video I do not tire watching, probably will wear it out by end of year >d) ..ideal wind speed to learn at? I would say between 5 - 10 mph. The lower speeds are best as the kite will give you time to react >c) What's a good line length to start at for a beginner, or is there one? Hard to say as this is usually to the flier's preference. I usually fly mine on 50 Ft. lines but have flow it on 75 ft. The 50 ft. rally brings out the kites performance when doing groundwork. I just about have the axle nailed down, snap stalls are a breeze as are wing tip stabs and pretty much aeverything else. Need more practice to do all these with ease but am able to do them. So go out and have fun and fly, fly, fly Terry Reabel OVKC - Ottawa Valley Kite club Keeping it Up. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 26 Jul 1995 09:24:09 -1000 From: sasaki@netopd.harvard.edu (Marty Sasaki) Message-Id: <3v64op$5fj@netope.harvard.edu> Organization: Harvard University - OIT/NSD Subject: Re: Beginners Questions with Tek 3 In article <1297350654.5202053@carletonbe.ottawa.on.ca>, Terry_Reabel@carletonbe.ottawa.on.ca (Terry Reabel) writes: |>Garth Sweet wrote |>>b) I have never tied spectra line .... tie a decent knot... surgeon's knots |>and overhand knots.
