Let me see if I can get away with two more: 1) Do you use anything special to unreel/reel in the line, or just the spool it comes in? (I saw someone here mention using a fishing rod). 2) Is there an FAQ for this group? Thanks again. There are lots of choices. First, depending on what the "spool" is, it may not be suitable for continued use because it will not withstand pressures created by line wound onto it under tension. Most of the time I walk the kite down, then wind up the line (I walk it down because it's often pulling so hard I *can't* pull it in). I use plastic Halo spools (like a small, fat bicycle rim) because they're relatively inexpensive and not too bulky. On the list of projects is making some reels. How much line/what size are you using? Catalogs from mail order companies like Into the Wind will have a number of choices (of course, check your local store first). 1-800-541-0314 If you aren't a member of the American Kitefliers Association, you might consider joining -- Member Merchants give a 10 0isc to members (to join the AKA, call 1-800-AKA-2550). $20/year. : 2) Is there an FAQ for this group? There are 4 FAQs: I've just taken on the general FAQ and what I plan on posting in a few days won't answer any of the questions you've asked so far, but keeping asking so I have more ideas about what to add! :-) There's an Address FAQ (Clubs/Organizations/AKA Member Merchants/Kite Dealers/Mail Order/Kitemaking Supply sources) -- depending on how quickly The Well turns articles over, you ought to find the latest one on-line. The third is a list of kite plans published in magazines and books; that was posted this week. And the languishing 4th is a collection of sport kite reviews.
