To all the scouts at rec.kites (and to all others, too), in the latest issue of Drachen Magazin there was an article about Mr. Cody and his manlifting kites. Amongst others (Malliot, Perkins, Saconney, Madiot and Schreiber) a guy called Baden-Powell was mentioned to have built enourmous Rokkaku-like kites. Is that guy the same who established the ideas of scouting? Any hints or sources appreciated, Robert. ... it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice (stolen from one of those bad techno-songs ;^)) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 27 Mar 1995 01:26:07 -1000 From: mr@datcon.co.uk (Martin Richards) Message-Id: <1995Mar27.112607.6495@datcon.co.uk> Organization: Data Connection Limited Subject: Re: Baden-Powell a kiter? In David Pelham 's Book, Kites (Penguin Books) he describes a kite called a Levitor designed by B.F.S. Baden-Powell of the Scots Guards, brother of the Baden-Powell who founded the Boy Scout movement. The Levitor was 11 metre high and made of bamboo and cotton cambric. A single kite was used to lift a man on 27 January 1894 at Pirbright Camp England.
