Hi, I've had a loan of the video that come with the Flexifoil "Stranger" (wierd guys!) and got all enthusiastic about this trick stuff, but when I get my kite into "controlled uncontrol" the lines tend to get all hooked up on the stand-off mountings, cross-bar mountings and wingtips! Do "trick" kites have setup so they snag less, or are trick flyers just better than me Steve (sjb@commarc.co.nz) = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Mon, 23 Jan 1995 19:50:15 -1000 From: jburka@Glue.umd.edu (Jeffrey C. Do "trick" kites have setup so they snag less, or are trick >flyers just better than me There are a few things you can do, like stringing a length of monofilament fishing line from one wing tip to the bottom of the spine and then to the other wing tip. This will keep your flying lines from getting fouled on the wing tips or keel. Some kites are built such that the fittings are smooth. For instance, Dean Jordan's leading edges form a sleeve over the fittings so that the kite lines won't get hung up. It's a rather rare occasion that I have to go untangle a line from one of my Jordan Air's. But in general, it's just a matter of practice. Some of my kites have the monofilament, but many don't. Only a few of my kites have enclosed leading edges (one Tracer, two X-1's, and a Pro). Axeling and other tricks take practice to do well, and part of doing them well is avoiding snags. Just keep at it! Jeff -- |Jeffrey C.
