The Austin Zilker Park 69th Annual Kite Festival is scheduled to be held March 12th 1995. It is *NOT* nor has it ever been an AKA sanctioned event. This event is a festival and is the first event of the season for kite enthusiasts all over this area. The main emphasis is single line kites. Ususally, the coordinators allow some time for sport kite demos. The crowd for this annual event ususally ranges from 5,000 on an day which threatens rain to 40,000 on a bright day. The weather for this part of the country is scheduled to be unseasonably warm for the next 90 days so chances are good for a beautiful day. Abel Ortega and myself along with a few other volunteers are putting together a seminar which will be benificial for both competitor and judge. The seminar is scheduled for March 11th in Austin, TX. The schedule is somewhat flexible, but then again so are kiters. Joel Scholz is having his 2nd annual garage sale (which was very sucessful last year). Abel is getting the Texas Skyriders Kite Club together in Austin and looking to provide beverages at Joel's shop, (Joel doesn't know yet) and then mosie on to the park, just a few miles down the road and join in the fun fly. Afterwards we are scheduled to meet at a hotel resturant (still to be announced) and Abel will disucss topics regarding Judging for the contestant and for judges. That's all the infor I have as of now. Abel and I are still working out a few details. If you are interested you can e-mail me. If you want to send flames. Don't bother.
