You can get a banquet ticket for Sat night which is $28 if you like. Call 203-531-1084 for any information I can fax you an information form if you give me your fax. The event is a free one for the public and lots of people come to watch. We should have some good teams at the event and is the key word. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 10 Aug 1995 08:20:17 -1000 From: dlw@odi.com (Dan Weinreb) Message-Id: Organization: Object Design Inc., Burlington, MA Subject: Attending an SKC I would like to attend the NYSKC, not to participate (I'm just a beginner) but to observe, admire, and so on. I was wondering whether it considered appropriate to officially register, if all you want to do is watch and not compete. I'm happy to do it, and pay the fee, if that's the right thing to do; I was just wondering. Thanks. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Fri, 11 Aug 1995 02:39:31 -1000 From: doyle@gdc.com (Sean Doyle) Message-Id: <9508111239.AA28535@mailhost.gdc.com> Organization: Harvard University Office of Information Technology Subject: Re: Attending an SKC Register only if you are interested in what the registration provides you. That is usually a T-Shirt, banquet ticket and sometimes the right to fly on the demo/practice field. I don't remember what rules NYSKC is imposing. If you just want to watch than there is no reason to register. The public is encouraged to attend it helps the organizer bring in corporate sponsers. A couple other things if you are new to SKCs. Don't be hesitant to volunteer to line judge. If you're going to be watching the event anyway why not help out at the same time. It helps to meet people. Also feel free to talk to anyone or everyone about their kites, their routines, etc. Competitors like to know you notice them. However, anyone is welcome to come for the day, both days, or just stop by for a while, for FREE! Talk to the flyers. If you want to 'belong' and become part of the goings-on, walk up to the striped tent, ask for Suzy or Bill Edison and volunteer to be a line judge. We ALWAYS need line judges. A line judge just has to be concerned enough to truly raise the yellow flag when a kite is getting close to the tape/boundry AND to raise the red flag( and wave it and hollor until it is noticed) if a kite goes over the tape/boundry. Look at it as you are helping the flyers by waving the yellow flags so that they are forewarned and can back off the boundry. Waving the red flag, you are protecting the by-standers. Both are important functions. Look for other rec.kiters, too.
