KEVLAR It was suggested to me that I rub down the Kevlar lines on my Rev II with a cloth wet with armor-all. They said it would take some of the roughness out of the Kevlar and protect it from UV, dirt, and stuff. -Make the lines slick :) Has anyone heard of this being done? Is it OK for the lines? I doesn't say anything about Kevlar on the bottle, but I guess that's because armor-all is for dashboards and tires. I wanted to ask someone before I do it and watch the armor-all eat the lines. Armor All is basically a silicon lubricant, and should reduce the binding you sometimes feel with kevlar. Ron Reich recommends using a silicon lubricant on team lines somewhere in "Kite Precision", his excellent book. Oddly enough Armor All is also very close to the UV protectant that Bainbride puts on its sailcloth. It's one down side is that it never really feels dry once you have applied it. I've used Armor-All and Son-of-a-gun on Spectra flying lines. It does help get them smooth. Be careful though and let the lines dry before dragging them across sand where the lines can pick up the grit and defeat the addition of the slick stuff... -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
