Is there a record for the most individual kites included in arches or the most arches in total flown? If not there should be and I'll tell you why... Most records are either very esoteric by nature or are done for the ego kick to the record setter or for reasons I have yet to work out. Having an arch record that individuals, co-ops or clubs may want to strive to beat could provide the ego bit but, importantly, it would provide an easy to produce major added spectacle to any festival where a record attempt occurs. Major spectacle means reason for people to stop their car, bring their kids, see it in the newspaper or whatever. Result - more people learn about kite stuff, go to festivals, have fun, tell their friends etc etc etc. Other result, us idiots who put on events find that, with more people, it is easier next time to get city help, sponsor money and, generally, a better show for all of us. So, for the record, at our most recent event we had 875 kites in arches which, at one stage were configured into 10 separate arches in a dome style. I don't know if that cuts it. Doesn't matter. Let me know your individual or event arch record and we'll start to build the show from there. By the way, our arch show was a combination of arches by Bruce Hawdon (also chief judge at the sport kite event), Tony Wolfenden (whose stuff speaks for itself) and our own (produced as a byproduct of a school workshop programme I did for the local electricity company). Post or mail your record and let's have some fun "underneath the arches". We did it over the Berlin Wall with one huge Arch of Ohashi Kites (600) on the 18th of March, 1990 Potsdamer Platz, Berlin. We have some great Pictures.
