These people may inform you of clubs or associations near Newmarket. I don't have their coordinates with me right now but if you're interested, I'll post them at a later date... There is also a local club in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge area if you're interested to drive a little. It is called the Wind Climbers of which I am a member. We usually fly at the Bingerman Park every second sunday of the month (weather permitting). But for this winter, We will have a kite making workshop on the 8 and 22 of Feburary and March (Tuesday nights) at a Kitchener high-school. This has been posted earlier this month by Daryl Erwin. Other than that, you may want to ask your local kite dealer for a local organization or their list of customers to arrange get together flys. Also check out for the various kite festivals in Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo or Verdun near Montreal (just to name a few) during the warmer season. Hello Jim. [C I read in your message to 'John' about kite associations. I'm about 5 hours drive north of John. I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I am just starting to build a kite or two as a hobby, and would like to join a local club. I have collected a number of rip-stop nylon kites, some hand made in Virginia, USA, and would like to make a few of my own. The tough part is getting the materials. I am having difficulty locating Rip-Stop Nylon for the sails. I could use silk, but I think that may be a bit cost prohibitive and nowhere near as durable. Thanks in advance for any assistance... I buy all of my materials from Hang-em High Fabrics in Richmond, Virginia (USA). Their prices are amongst the best in the industry and the service is superb. Yes, they *will* take Canadian orders. Shipping will be a bit more expensive, but with their great prices, this may not be that much of an issue. It looks like they are going to have very interesting agenda. (See the previous article by Darly Erwin,"Kite Work Shop") Some of the topics of discussion, will include such things as dying rip-stop nylon, fighter kites, buggies (saftey) and "kite making materials" etc. One of the kite material suppliers will be attending and give a talk. As for kites and materials, there are number of people in Ontario who distribute them. While attending the T.K.F's party last weekend (great time!) I did pickup a catalog from Skunkworks, run by Mike Lin. It looks like he has a very comprehensive list of kiting materials, his number is (905)276-1891. Here are few more suppliers Touch The Sky at (416)362-5983 and Tail Spin Kites in Mitchem Ontario sorry I don't have his number right now but if you want it I can get it. I highly recommend you look at the F.A.Q. list of suppliers, there are many, many excellent suppliers in the U.S. Good luck on your kite projects. Jim Poy The tough part is getting the materials.
